How to Ruby on Rails- Install Rails

In this guide, we are going to learn how to install Ruby On Rails. We are using RailsInstaller bundle which include Ruby language, Rails, Bundler, Git, SQL Server support etc. Using RailInstaller you can install all of them in a single step. Ruby on Rails is various packages,  ActiveRecord, Active Resource (provides web services), Action Pack, Active Support and Action Mailer.

 

Download RailsInstaller

Download RailsInstaller from http://railinstaller.org. You can see the version of each element included in the package.

Run RailsInstaller

Once you download the file, run the setup and install to the preferred location of your computer.

Accept License and agreements, and click next to install.

Once you finish RailsInstaller installation, check the Configure git and ssh, which allow you to configure Git version control and SSH. Click finish to configure them.

Configure git & ssh

On Ruby on Rails command prompt, Add your Name and email address to configure git and ssh as per below screenshot.

RailsInstaller automatically installs git and generate an ssh key.

You have got a workspace generated in C:\\Sites\. Now you are all set to start Ruby on Rails development. In next tutorial, we will learn what is each directory and files on Rail’s workspace.
