How to transfer files to Remote Server using FileZilla FTP client

This tutorial is a step by step guide to transfer files using FileZilla FTP client to remote server. FileZilla is a free software, cross-platform FTP application supports FTP, SFTP, and FTPS. File Transfer Protocol (FTP) is a standardized network protocol used to transfer files between a client and a server over the internet or any other TCP/IP network. A strength of FTP is the reliable and efficient bulk transfer of files. FTP is popular with website owners and web designers to upload files to the servers of their web hosting company.

This tutorial includes 3 main steps.

1.Create an FTP account on the web server.
2.Download and install FileZilla FTP client.
3.Configure and Transfer files using FileZilla.

 

1.Create an FTP account on the web hosting.

To create FTP account on you web hosting, go to web hosting control panel select manage FTP accounts.

Add and configure an FTP account by entering following details.

+FTP Username
+FTP Password

Click “Create FTP account”.

2.Download and install FileZilla FTP client.

Once you create the FTP account, download, install and configure Filezilla FTP client utility from https://filezilla-project.org/download.php.

When running setup file and installing Filezilla, select “available only for me” and continue to install.

3.Configure and Transfer files using FileZilla.

Once you finish the installation, select file menu and choose Site Manager from Navigation menu. Site Manager to manage server lists and transfer queue for ordering file transfer tasks.

Create a new site and rename it from site manager window.

Enter the FTP account details that we created on web host,

+Host: Domain name
+Port: 21
+Logon Type: Ask for password
+User: FTP Username

Click “Connect” to continue to your remote file server.

Enter your FTP password and click “OK”

Filezilla shows you status messages on command field when connecting to the server.

Once you connected to the remote site, You can transfer files from local site to remote site and vice versa.

You can Drag and drop files to download and upload. Filezilla supports resume which means the file transfer process can be paused and continued.
